Chapter Vision Statement

To be an Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Inc. Chapter of excellence and recognized for transformational leadership, unwavering brotherhood, measurable community impact, and operational excellence, while developing the next generation of leaders and leaving a legacy of sustainable growth and service.

Sigma Omicron Lambda History

Honorable Rev. Bro. Edward Johnson, the current Mayor of Fayetteville, Ga, made an important call to the members of Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Incorporated residing in Fayette and Coweta counties of Georgia to consider chartering a new chapter. Recognizing the need for the service of Alpha Phi Alpha in those counties, an interest group was formed consisting of area brothers from the fraternity.

This interest group began meeting at the historic Flat Rock A.M.E. Church in Fayetteville, Georgia, where Honorable Rev. Bro. Johnson served as the Senior Pastor. Bro. Wiley Earl Hines Jr. was selected to preside over the interest group meetings, while Bro. Darryl A. Hicks, Sr. led the chartering committee. Bro. Hicks communicated with the necessary District, Regional, and National officers to facilitate the chartering process. Over a two-year period, the interest group convened monthly at Flat Rock A.M.E Church or Bennett’s Mill Middle School, where Bro. Dr. Marcus Broadhead was principal. During this time, the brothers engaged in several service projects and local events, implementing national programs such as “Brothers Keeper” and “Voteless People Is A Hopeless People.” The interest group also included several community leaders, with Rev. Bro. James D. S. Vance being elected as the Fayette County NAACP chapter president.

The brothers actively participated in the NAACP annual Martin Luther King Day parade. Additionally, State Representative, Honorable Bro. Derrick Jackson, invited the brothers to join in the annual “Alpha Day” at the Georgia State Capitol. To celebrate their new bond, the interest group established an annual cookout. On Saturday, July 27, 2019, the Sigma Omicron Lambda chapter was officially established at the fraternity’s 113th Anniversary | 95th General Convention held in Las Vegas, Nevada. The first installation of chapter officers took place on Saturday, October 5, 2019, at Bennett's Mill Middle School, with the officers being duly installed by the Atlanta Metro Area two Director, Bro. Pierre L. Gaither.
